An update from the Road-Riga

Wow, I didn't realize that I hadn't posted anything since May, oops. To catch you up since then summer school finished on the 28th of June. It was my first time teaching the class and summer school so that was interesting. Most of the students did ok but some of them didn't realize that yes we do a full semester in 5 weeks. A student who ended up with an F in lab asked me what brought the grade down. After looking at the individuals grades I told the student that getting 0 for 250 points out of 1150 for the class was a great way to fail it. Another student asked me how to pull up the grade. The funny part was that the question was asked completely serious and an how before grades were due. Those students are funny like that, wanting to fix the grade after it is too late.

So on the 9th of July I started my summer vacation. I spent about a week in Poland which I enjoyed but it was very hot. I got sunburned in Krakow which wasn't fun. I spent a couple days in Vilnius, Lithuania and now I'm in Riga, Latvia for 1 more night. Tomorrow morning I'm off to Tartu, Estonia with yet another currency and another language that I don't know. I finally figured out the Polish zloty and then I moved to Lithuanian litas. I started getting a handle on the litas and I'm off to Riga and lats. I'm started to get a hold on them and then I'll be off the the kroon in Estonia. The hardest part about all the money changes is doing the conversions in the city. My lunch today didn't seem like a lot of money, 6.70 Lats, but at $13 it wasn't cheap. This is part of the fun. Estonian kroons are running 11:1 against the dollar so dividing the prices by 10 shouldn't be too difficult.

While I'm having a great time I do miss some things about Doha. They are: my car, my clothes dryer (my pants are only staying up because of the money belt), I know the money, my friends, shawarma, my apartment, and the fact that I have more than 4 shirts there!

Well, when I get back I'll do a more complete post with pictures. I hope all is going well where you are!
